#togetherapart: Meet Gabriela
With the #TogetherApart initiative we have collected fun photos, videos, boomerangs and stories from you of your social distancing days and more – so we can all be #TogetherApart.
Hi – I’m Gabriela
I’m 18 years old
I’m a HAE patient
And I live in United States
I hope that HAE patients in the future:
are able to receive proper medication and live a life full of opportunities where HAE does not stop them.
The HAEi Youngsters’ Community is important because:
it allows the HAE youth community to share their stories, communicate with one another, and have the support from fellow HAE patients and caregivers.
My favorite quote is:
"I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living." - Dr.Seuss
‘Creating a Path to Better Health’ means:
This means that our community can pave a new road to advancements and improvements in the medical field to enhance our lives.
This is my personal story:
I remember having a severe stomach swell when I was around seven years old. I couldn’t stop crying from the pain and my mom rushed me to the family doctor. I was laying on the examination table and my mom just started crying from the fear of not knowing what was wrong with me. I think about that moment often and how much pain our caregivers can go through as well. It’s important to acknowledge the people in your life who will always be there to support and motivate you. I don’t think I would be alive today with my family taking care of me every step of the way. It hurts to see their fear and worries when I experience a swell, but I know giving them my gratitude and love is all they need.
